ROA Internship Program

Lead at the Strategic Level

The Reserve Organization of America Internship Program is designed for students and emerging professionals who aspire to influence national defense and veterans’ policy at the highest levels. This is not a typical entry-level experience—it’s an opportunity to engage in Commander-in-Chief level thinking and contribute to decisions that shape America’s military readiness and the well-being of those who serve.

Why Choose the ROA Internship?

  • Strategic Exposure: Work on projects that inform defense policy and legislative priorities.
  • Mission Impact: Help strengthen the Reserve Components and advocate for servicemembers, veterans, and families.

Testimonials

Our fellows don’t get coffee—they get experience. Hear from past participants about how the ROA Fellowship gave them a front-row seat to national defense decision-making and opened doors to careers in policy, communications, and leadership.

“My internship with the Reserve Organization of America has been one of the most rewarding educational experiences of my life. ROA offered an in-depth understanding of the policy profess and a firsthand view of day-to-day operations in our nation’s capital. The program laid a strong foundation for supporting our nation’s citizen-warriors, their families, and broader national security efforts. Unlike many internships, ROA entrusted me with meaningful, substantive work. Whether coordinating events or leading initiatives I developed myself, I always felt my contributions made a real impact. This experience deepened my connection to the military community, and I cannot recommend ROA’s internship program highly enough. I strongly support its expansion so that future students can benefit from this exceptional opportunity for years to come.”

Peter Donlon

“At the Reserve Organization of America, I accomplished more than I ever imagined possible as an intern. This experience has been truly transformative, both personally and professionally. From the very beginning, I was welcomed as a valued member of the team and trusted with projects that were meaningful and mission-driven. Whether drafting policy memos, supporting legislative outreach, or contributing to strategic planning, I always felt empowered to make a difference. There was never a wasted day. Each one brought new challenges, exciting opportunities, and impactful work that contributed to ROA’s mission. The fast-paced, purpose driven environment helped me grow in critical thinking, communication, and leadership. The skills I developed here will benefit me throughout my career. ROA’s internship program is outstanding, and I am truly grateful.”
